Comfortable and quality Virtual Reality arrives for everyone
Oculus Go, the new autonomous VR glasses that Oculus, the subsidiary company of Facebook, announced at its developers meeting last October will be released in early 2018.
This confirmed the rumors that had been going on since the beginning of the year, according to which the Californian company was working on a device halfway between the glasses that need a smartphone as a processor and those that work connected to a PC.
It is therefore a mid-range glasses, among the Gear VR, developed by Oculus and Samsung, and the Oculus Rift, the company’s flagship in terms of quality and performance.
The “Santa Cruz Project” is responsible for these new glasses, whose main objective has been to obtain a completely independent device.
The Oculus Go will go on sale in the United States during the month of January with a price of $ 199, not much more expensive than the $ 129 that the Gear VR costs (for which, remember, we need a high-end Samsung phone) and well below the $ 500 that the Rift model costs.

What is expected of the Oculus Go?
The fundamental mission of the Go will be to overcome the barrier so far has involved relying on an external processor, smartphone or PC, so that the glasses could work, thus gaining comfort and freedom for users. In fact, Mark Zuckerberg announced at the same conference that this is the first stone to reach Oculus’ next goal: to bring virtual reality to a billion people around the world.
How are the Oculus Go
According to Hugo Barra, head of Oculus, “without a doubt we are facing the easiest and most comfortable way to get into virtual reality.” If we analyze the performance of the glasses we can see that it is not a simple commercial message. The Oculus Go features a 2,560X1,440-pixel WQHD LCD screen, allowing it to deliver high image quality, clear vision and reduce the hated screendor effect. Another very new solution that it incorporates is the spatial audio system, implemented directly on the helmet straps, which allows us to free ourselves from the headphones, thus gaining autonomy and aesthetics.
It also has a control quite similar to that of the Gear VR, which suggests that engineers develop both controllers simultaneously.
Catalogue
The other great advantage is that it will reach the market with a very wide content catalog, since the Oculus Go will be fully compatible with all Gear VR applications, so that from the first day users will be able to have hundreds of applications.
In this way Oculus manages to combine a versatile, autonomous device with a medium-high quality based on a wide range of content. And also, with a very competitive price; the necessary ingredients to introduce a groundbreaking device to the VR market.
